Possible Interaction: Pentobarbital and Potassium

supplement:

Potassium

Research Papers that Mention the Interaction

In oocytes using the two electrode voltage clamp technique potassium currents of hminK-, HERG- and Kir2.2-expressing oocytes were inhibited by pentobarbital with IC50 values of 0.20, 1.58 and 0.54 mM, respectively.
The data show that pentobarbital suppresses both cloned (IK, IKir2.2) and native (IK, IK1) cardiac potassium currents with the highest affinity for IKs.

In addition, the pulmonary constrictor response to potassium was markedly blunted by pentobarbital (P less than 0.001).

It is proposed that one of the important mechanisms of pentobarbital neuronal inhibition , particularly at lower doses, is an increase in potassium conductance.

Glutamate oxidation was not enhanced by excess potassium but there was a distinct dose-dependent reduction in the presence of pentobarbital.

In the presence of pentobarbital (3 × 10−4M), the maximum contractions effected by potassium , noradrenaline, and prostaglandin F2α were reduced by 37 ± 3, 69 ± 3, and 10 ± 6%, respectively.

3 Sodium thiopentone and sodium pentobarbitone , in doses producing light anaesthesia, caused varying degrees of depression (up to 50%) in the CSF potassium fluxes, influx being consistently more affected than efflux.
