Possible Interaction: Pentagastrin and Secretin

supplement:

Secretin

Research Papers that Mention the Interaction

Secretin strongly inhibited basal acid output and slightly decreased pentagastrin induced gastric secretion.
Gut  •  1970  |  View Paper
Pentagastrin stimulated histamine release to a peak of 168 +/- 34 ng/min, which was inhibited to 14 +/- 8 ng/min with the high concentration of secretin and to 85 +/- 21 ng/min at 40 pg/ml secretin.
Secretin at an infusion rate of 10 ng/kg/min resulted in approximately 90% inhibition of gastric secretion in response to pentagastrin (20 ng/kg/min), whereas at the physiological postprandial concentration of 40 pg/ml it inhibited gastric secretion by approximately 55%.
The present data demonstrate that secretin , even at physiological concentrations, can inhibit gastric acid secretion in response to gastrin/pentagastrin , and one of the mechanisms of inhibition involves modulation of gastric histamine release.

On the other hand, secretin (100 U/kg) inhibited the trophic action of pentagastrin.

It is concluded that Pentagastrin may be used as a stimulant in pancreatic secretory studies.

Secretin also elicited a sustained elevation in serum PG I in all four examined, including one who showed a fall in serum PG I during pentagastrin infusion.

Secretin inhibited the acid response induced by pentagastrin by about 60% and simultaneously provoked a pancreatic bicarbonate output sufficient to neutralize about 60% of the gastric acid output to pentagastrin.
We conclude that secretin is a strong inhibitor of gastric secretion in duodenal ulcer patients induced by a meal and by pentagastrin.
Gut  •  1973  |  View Paper
Secretin appeared to have a greater inhibitory effect on acid secretion stimulated by pentagastrin than on histamine-stimulated secretion.
The … of secretin in a dose of 1 U per kg resulted … marked inhibition of acid secretion stimulated by either pentagastrin in a dose of 0.12 μg per kg per hr or histamine acid … in a dose of 0.02 mg per kg per hr in 10 subjects.

Secretin-stimulated pepsin secretion from Heidenhain pouches was significantly depressed by concomitant pentagastrin.
Experientia  •  2005  |  View Paper
Percentage inhibition of acid output by secretin was slightly increased after vagal denervation when the stimulant was Urecholine (42% inhibition before, 52% after) or pentagastrin (63% inhibition before, 73% after), but these changes were not statistically significant.

In conscious cats with gastric fistulae … and pancreatic juice to jejunum, secretin (1 unit/kg-hr), cholecystokinin (CCK) (4 units/kg-hr), and duodenal …/hr) caused a marked inhibition of half maximal gastric acid response to pentagastrin (8 μg/kg-hr) but did … to histamine (160 μg/kg-hr).
Secretin , CCK, and jejunal acidification prevented the formation of duodenal ulcerations in conscious cats infused with pentagastrin or histamine for 36 hours.
