Research Papers that Mention the Interaction

RESULTS Ni otinic acid tr eatment raised total HDL cholesterol and pho spholipids, H DL2 levels as well as HDL particle size.

In cultured human hepatocytes (HepG2), niacin increased: association of apoA-I with phospholipids and cholesterol by 46% and 23% respectively, formation of lipid-poor single apoA-I molecule-containing particles up to ∼ 2.4-fold, and pre β 1 and α migrating HDL particles.
Niacin dose-dependently stimulated the cell efflux of phospholipid and cholesterol and increased transcription of ABCA1 gene and ABCA1 protein.

These results suggest that nicotinic acid significantly protects the arrested-reperfused myocardium by a) preventing elevation of myocardial fatty acid levels, b) stimulating glycolysis by limiting fatty acid oxidation, c) inhibiting degradation of membrane phospholipids , and d) preventing accumulation of fatty acid metabolites with harmful detergent properties.
While nicotinic acid inhibited β-oxidation during pre-ischemia and reperfusion, it also prevented the degradation of membrane phospholipids.

We conclude that nicotinamide enhances brain choline concentrations by mobilising choline from choline-containing phospholipids , presumably via activation of phospholipase A2, while the formation of NMN does not contribute to this effect.

Similarly, phospholipid levels in niacin + AD and taurine + niacin + AD groups were decreased significantly compared to AD alone.

The diet supplemented with taurine (2.5%), niacin (2.5%), or taurine (2.5%) + niacin (2.5%) also reduced AD-induced increases in lung collagen accumulation, phospholipids , MDAE and SOD activity.

The intensity of methylation of choline-containing phospholipids under the effect of nicotinic acid lowers in all the tissues under study.

of nicotinic acid caused significant decreases of serum cholesterol and phospholipids in thyroidectomized dogs and in normal dogs, both on low and on high-fat diets.
