Possible Interaction: Melatonin and Salicylic Acid

supplement:

Melatonin

Research Papers that Mention the Interaction

The combination between two well-studied bioactive compounds melatonin and salicylic acid with proper modifications unexpectedly creates a sharp pair of "scissors" cutting off the vicious connection between inflammation and cancer by targeting a key contributor Signal Transducers and Activators of Transcription 3 (STAT3) in the two pathological processes.

In Cd stressed plants, the simultaneous application of MT and SA led to sharp decreases in MDA and H2O2 amounts (61.04 and 49.11%, respectively), related to plants treated with Cd alone.
Our findings suggest a possible synergic interaction between MT and SA in tolerating Cd toxicity by reducing Cd uptake, improving chlorophyll biosynthesis and accelerating ascorbate-glutathione cycle as well as the modulation of glyoxalase system.
The activity of enzymes responsible for the ascorbate-glutathione cycle and glyoxalase system considerably improved by using MT, SA, or the combination of MT and SA.

Melatonin accumulation in the leaves was reduced significantly by the plant hormones abscisic acid (ABA) and salicylic acid (SA), which commonly cause stomatal closure.

melatonin acts … of salicylic acid (SA) synthesis, the reduced melatonin levels in the snat mutant lines led to decreased SA levels compared to wild‐type, suggesting that … increased pathogen susceptibility of the snat mutant lines could be attributed to decreased SA levels and subsequent attenuation of defense gene induction.
