Possible Interaction: Linolenic Acid and Doxorubicin Hydrochloride

Research Papers that Mention the Interaction

Conversely, 1 h exposure to 10(-5) M DOX was sufficient to induce alterations in the desaturation/elongation of linoleic and alpha-linolenic acids , but did not cause either formation of conjugated dienes or modification of the fatty acyl pattern.
The membrane lipid peroxidation induced by DOX may cause disruption of the unsaturated fatty acyl chains; in the endoplasmic reticulum, containing the system catalyzing the desaturation/elongation of fatty acids, DOX could interfere with the metabolism of linoleic and alpha-linolenic acids.

Addition of more than 10 microM of adriamycin to cultured rat hepatocytes loaded with alpha-linolenic acid (linolenic acid-loaded hepatocytes) caused marked lipid peroxidation as measured by an accumulation of malondialdehyde during a 9 hr incubation.
After addition of 50 microM of adriamycin to linolenic acid-loaded hepatocytes, malondialdehyde accumulation significantly increased at 3 hr, followed by cellular reduced glutathione decrease and lactate dehydrogenase leakage after 6 hr.
