Possible Interaction: Gossypol and Vasodilator Agents

Research Papers that Mention the Interaction

Over the same concentration range gossypol abolished the vasodilator action of BK (1.0 nmol), however it also blocked the endothelium‐independent vasodilator response to sodium nitroprusside (30 nmol) and the vasoconstrictor effect of endothelin‐1 (10 pmol) which suggests non‐specific toxic actions of gossypol.

Gossypol (10 microM, 5 min), an inhibitor of endothelium-derived relaxing factor (EDRF) production and/or release, increased basal RVR by 5% and significantly inhibited the vasodilator effects of ACh and ATP but had no effect on verapamil- or GTN-induced decreases in RVR.

The in vivo blood pressure lowering effect of three vasodilators whose in vitro effects are endothelium-dependent (acetylcholine, substance P and adenosine triphosphate) was reduced by 40-60% after systemic treatment of the animals with gossypol.

The vasodilator effects were blocked by the EDRF inhibitors hemoglobin, dithiothreitol, and gossypol.
