Possible Interaction: Glucose and Proflavine

supplement:

Glucose

Research Papers that Mention the Interaction

Proflavine (PF) inhibited glucose use in sensitive but not resistant Escherichia coli B. Glucose transport (as measured by alpha-methylglucoside accumulation) was only partly inhibited by PF concentration that completely blocked glucose use.

If the amount of proflavine bound to sensitive cells was too low to inhibit glucose utilization, adding glucose to these cells caused them to release the dye.
Proflavine inhibited the aerobic and anaerobic utilization of glucose by sensitive but not by resistant Escherichia coli.
