Possible Interaction: Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid and Felbamate

Research Papers that Mention the Interaction

Previously, we reported that felbamate potentiates gamma-aminobutyric acid(A) (GABA(A)) receptor Cl- currents and inhibits N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor currents.

These results suggest that FBM potentiates gamma-aminobutyric acid type A receptor function, at least in part, by acting at a site that interacts with the PTX site but is distinct from the PTX, barbiturate, GABA , benzodiazepine, zinc and neurosteroid sites.

In whole‐cell voltage clamp recordings from cultured rat hippocampal neurons, clinically relevant concentrations of felbamate (0.1–3 mM) inhibited N‐methyl‐D‐aspartate (NMDA) responses and potentiated γ‐aminobutyric acid ( GABA ) responses.
