Research Papers that Mention the Interaction

Compared to placebo, alcohol and alcohol plus CBD , but not CBD alone, produced significant impairments of motor and psychomotor performances, overestimations of time production and subjective responses indicating an accurate self-perception of their intoxication and deficits.
The combination of alcohol plus CBD resulted in significantly lower blood alcohol levels compared to alcohol given alone, however, there were few differences observed between the pharmacological effects of the two alcohol conditions.
Thus, the inactivity of CBD , a major marijuana constituent, on motor and mental performance and effects also extends to its interaction with alcohol.

Importantly, cannabidiol can prevent the decrease in autophagy induced by alcohol.

Preliminary preclinical results suggest that CBD can attenuate alcohol consumption and potentially protect against certain harmful effects of alcohol , such as liver and brain damage.

CBD also reduced experimental anxiety in rats with alcohol and cocaine histories, and prevented the development of high impulsivity in rats with a dependence-inducing alcohol intoxication history [5].

In addition, our results suggest that cannabinol and cannabidiol could significantly alter ethanol glucuronidation.

RATIONALE Cannabidiol CBD ) reduces craving in animal models of alcohol and cocaine use and is known to modulate nicotinic receptor function, suggesting that it may alleviate symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Preclinical research indicates the non-intoxicating phytocannabinoid, cannabidiol (CBD), can reduce addiction-relevant behaviour for several drug classes (e.g. ethanol , opiates, psychostimulants) in rodents.

Chronic CBD administration (30, 60 and 90 mg/kg) reduced ethanol intake in males, whereas in females a significant reduction was only achieved with the highest dose (90 mg/kg).
Only the acute administration of CBD at the highest dose (90 mg/kg) reduced significantly ethanol consumption in both sexes.

The absorption of CBD (AUC0-300 min) decreased in the following order: sublingual ethanolic CBD solution (420+/-120 ngxmin/mL; mean+/-SD; n=4)>sublingual solid CBD/beta-CD complex (270+/-120 ngxmin/mL)>oral ethanolic CBD solution (concentrations in plasma below the quantitation limit).
