Possible Interaction: Epigallocatechin Gallate and L-Epicatechin

Research Papers that Mention the Interaction

Based on our evidence that (−)-epicatechin (EC), an inert catechin, enhances the cancer-preventive activity of green tea catechins , we studied the enhancing effects of EC on inductions of growth inhibition and apoptosis in human lung cancer cell lines PC-9 and A549 with curcumin.
Because EC was previously shown to enhance the incorporation of EGCG into PC-9 cells, we think that EC has similar effects on curcumin.

Among the tea catechins tested, ECg and EGCg showed the most potent inhibitory effect on collagenase activity when an optimal concentration of tea catechins (100 micrograms/ml) was added to reaction mixture containing collagenase and collagen.

Enzyme kinetics reveal that EGCG is a mixed inhibitor of the ARG-L while (+)-catechin and (−)-epicatechin are competitive inhibitors.

On endothelium-denuded preparations, both EGCG and EP induced a concentration-dependent contraction (significance at 0.1 and 1 μM concentrations of the two compounds, respectively).

These results showed that the co-treatments with EGCG and EGC, EGCG or ECG , and EGC and ECG have stronger synergistic effects on the protection of FK506-induced cell death.

EC and EGC significantly increased the capacity of ECg and EGCg to reduce levels of staphylococcal oxacillin resistance.

Furthermore, the amount of EGCg or ECg incorporated into the lipid bilayers increased with increasing EC concentration.
