Possible Interaction: Desipramine and Adrenocorticotropic Hormone

Research Papers that Mention the Interaction

Desipramine DMI ), a tricyclic antidepressant and norepinephrine (NE) reuptake blocker, is reported to induce ACTH and cortisol release acutely in humans, probably by facilitating central NE neurotransmission.
This is the first human study to suggest an inhibitory effect of DMI on central noradrenergic control of ACTH release.

Five weeks of treatment with desipramine (15 mg/kg) significantly reduced evening levels of both ACTH and corticosterone in all groups, and eliminated the group differences.
Neurobiology of Aging  •  1997  |  View Paper
DMI treatment augmented both the prolactin and ACTH responses to 8-OH DPAT in the SAL controls.
Neurotoxicology  •  1996  |  View Paper
In slices of n. accumbens, but not in slices of striatum of rats exposed to the combined treatment of ACTH and DMI , a significant decrease in the inhibitory effect of exogenous DA on stimulated release of [3H]DA was observed.
Neuropharmacology  •  1991  |  View Paper
This behavioural evidence indicates that ACTH potentiation involves a central mechanism and demonstrates a functional interaction between ACTH and DMI at the behavioural level.
