Possible Interaction: Creatine and Doxorubicin Hydrochloride

Research Papers that Mention the Interaction

A significant and irreversible decrease in creatine transport was detected after an incubation with 50-100 nmol/l doxorubicin.
Our findings show that the cardiomyocellular transport capacity for creatine is substantially decreased by doxorubicin administration and suggest that this effect may be an important early event in the pathogenesis of doxorubicin-mediated cardiotoxicity.

Creatine significantly reduced the RNA-damaging activity of only two of the toxic tested agents (H(2)O(2) and doxorubicin ), while it lacked activity in counterstaining the RNA damage induced by the NO donors spermine and SNAP.

Brief exposure of cultured cardiomyocytes to DOX significantly decreases creatine transport, which is the cell’s sole source of creatine.
Creatine supplementation significantly decreased cytotoxicity, apoptosis, and reactive oxygen species production caused by DOX.

The doxorubicin‐treated group lost 13.4% bodyweight over 3 days, whereas the creatine‐ and vitamin‐supplemented groups lost approximately 35% 3 days after the administration of doxorubicin.

The addition of creatine to adriamycin treated cells resulted in a several-fold increase in the steady state concentration of phosphorylcreatine.

Supplementation with Cr or CrN may preserve cell viability during DOX treatment.
Viability was lowest in the DOX-treated group regardless of cell type; however, when DOX was combined with Cr or CrN, viability was improved.
