Possible Interaction: Colchicine and Glucose

supplement:

Glucose

Research Papers that Mention the Interaction

Efflux of colchicine was accelerated > 5-fold in both the MDR1-V185 (mutant) and MDR1-G185 (wild-type) transfectants when glucose was given to raise ATP levels.
In contrast, glucose feeding decreased the initial rate of colchicine uptake approximately 4-fold in the MDR1-V185 (mutant) transfectant but not in the MDR1-G185 (wild-type) transfectant.

Acute insulin response to glucose (0.33 g/kg) was significantly decreased by colchicine (3 mg i.v.).
The 10-day treatment with colchicine (2 mg daily) caused a significant suppression of insulin secretion induced by oral glucose (100 g) and significantly increased the plasma glucose concentrations following the test (P < 0.05).

colchicine resulted in decreased IRI release in the first phase, with a mean decrease of 113 ± 44 μU/time (p < 0.05), … a decrease of 308 ± 124 μU/time (p < 0.05) and a mean decreased IRI release for the total 75-min glucose infusion of 438 ± … < 0.02).

Colchicine at (0.1 mM) … "apparent Km" of glucose (140% P less than 0.001) galactose (135% P less than 0.001) glycine (43% P less than 0.001) … valine (47% P less than 0.001) but had no significant effect on the p.d.max of these substrates.

Colchicine (1 mM) prevented secretion vesicle migration and this potentiation effect of higher concentrations of glucose was eliminated.

Incubation of islets of Langerhans in vitro in the presence of colchicine produced a progressive inhibition of the insulin-secretory response to glucose , which was dependent on the time of incubation.

Colchicine blocked the axonal transport of glucose by up to 60–70 per cent.

colchicine had no effect on dry weight and soluble sugar content of the fungal mats but caused an acceleration in the rate of sugar absorption and utilisation and polysaccharide accumulation especially the glucosans.

Addition of glucose to the medium resulted in a small, but significant, decrease in the inhibitory effects of both vincristine and colchicine.

A similar concentration of colchicine inhibited the increase in glucose-1 -14C oxidation by 90% and the quantitative nitroblue tetrazolium reduction by about 50%.
