Possible Interaction: Cisplatin and Caffeic Acid

supplement:

Caffeic Acid

Research Papers that Mention the Interaction

However, 6 h of pre incubation with caffeic acid prior to cisplatin treatment led to acquired resistance to cisplatin and reduced DNA binding.
In conclusion, the enzyme inhibitory action of caffeic acid is dominant when the two agents are co-administered leading to increased cytotoxicity, and the Nrf2 induction is dominant when the cells are treated with caffeic acid prior to cisplatin treatment leading to resistance.
Our findings demonstrate that the co-treatment of cancer cells with cisplatin and caffeic acid can enhance cisplatin cytotoxicity and increases the amount of platinum bound to nuclear DNA.
The use of caffeic acid as adjuvant for cisplatin should be carefully examined due to different pharmacokinetic profiles of caffeic acid and cisplatin.

Administration of two doses of CA (each of 250 mg/kg body weight), at 15 and 120 min after treatment with CP , significantly attenuated the CP-induced changes in all these parameters but the administration of CA alone had no effect.
These results suggest that CA is an effective agent in reducing the effects of CP on the intestine and could prove to be useful in alleviating the gastrointestinal toxicity of this drug.

In HeLa and CaSki cell lines, a combination index <1 for CDDP and CFC indicated the synergistic growth inhibition; the combination of the two also significantly increased expression of caspase-3, -7 and -9.
In conclusion, CFC may be a candidate anticancer agent that, when use in combination, may increase the therapeutic efficacy of CDDP.
