Possible Interaction: Calcitonin Gene-Related Peptide and Adrenocorticotropic Hormone

Research Papers that Mention the Interaction

CGRP significantly increased ACTH release at concentrations of 10−8–10−11 M. The ACTH release was gradually increased by CGRP concentrations lower than 10−10 M, and was decreased at concentrations higher than 10−9 M, presenting a bell‐shaped dose‐response curve.
CGRP‐like immunoreactive nerve fibers have been reported to innervate the anterior pituitary, so that the stimulatory effect of CGRP on the ACTH release suggests that this peptide may be involved in neural regulation of hormone secretion in the anterior pituitary.

The action of CGRP on grooming in an open field is related to the pituitary-adrenal activation, and either CRF or adrenocorticotropic hormone or both may be involved in mediating the action of CGRP.

At the … dose of ACTH (2 ng min‐1 …‐1, I.V.) CGRP raised mean plasma cortisol output from 314 +/‐ 31 to 486 +/‐ 44 ng min‐1 kg‐1 (P less … 0.01) and this effect was not attributable to an increase in the adrenal presentation rate of ACTH.
