Possible Interaction: Arsenic Trioxide and Epigallocatechin Gallate

Research Papers that Mention the Interaction

EGCG significantly lowered down the ATO concentration required for an effective control of APL cells, HL-60.
The simultaneous treatment of ATO with EGCG induced a mitochondria-dependent apoptosis in HL-60 cells significantly, which accounted for more than 70% of the cell death in the treatment.
This investigation also provided evidence that ATO , since mainly acted to induce HO-1 in simultaneous treatment with EGCG , could be replaced by other HO-1 inducer with much less human toxicity.

Furthermore, a combination with arsenic trioxide ( As2O3) and (−)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate significantly enhanced induction of apoptosis compared with As2O3 alone via decreased intracellular reduced glutathione levels and increased production of ROS.

Conclusion: In assessment synergistic effects of integrated therapy with EGCG and ATO and irradiation had been significant impact on low dose chemotherapy for breast cancer treatment.
The combined therapy of EGCG and ATO in presence and absence radiation could rise cell death up to 80%.
