supplement:

Arachidonic Acid

drug:

Leptin

Research Papers that Mention the Interaction

We found that arachidonic acid or prostaglandin E(2) (PGE(2)) stimulated leptin release by explants of subcutaneous adipose tissue from obese humans.

leptin … AA and PGE2 from cultured spinal cord astrocytes; 2) leptin elevated the expression of caveolin‐1 (Cav‐1) via the JAK2/Stat3 signaling pathway; 3) … and the release of interleukin‐6 from cocultured neurons and astrocytes; and 5) leptin improved the recovery of locomotion in mice after SCI.

ARA also attenuated the effect of central leptin on hepatic glucose and lipid metabolism by reversing the mRNA expression of the genes involved in gluconeogenesis (G6Pase, PEPCK), glucose transportation (GLUT2), lipogenesis (FAS, SCD1), and cholesterol synthesis (HMG-CoA reductase).
We found that intracerebroventricular injection of ARA (25 nmol/day) for 2.5 days reversed the effect of central leptin on hypothalamic JAK2, pSTAT3, pAkt, and pFOXO1 protein levels, which was concomitant with a pro-inflammatory response in the hypothalamus.

Leptin secretion and expression, glucose utilization and lactate production were determined at 96 h. The arachidonic acid (200 μM) inhibited both the basal and insulin stimulated leptin secretion and expression.
These results suggest that the inhibitory effect of the arachidonic acid on leptin secretion and expression may be due, al least in part, to the increase in the anaerobic utilization of glucose.

Leptin also enhanced calcium ionophore-stimulated release of free arachidonic acid.
