Research Papers that Mention the Interaction

An increase of nearly 8-fold in plasma Phe/Tyr ratio was found after 4 days of supplementation the standard diet with 5% phenylalanine plus 0.4% α-methylphenylalanine.
Phenylalanine plus α-methylphenylalanine administration to 5-day-old chicks produced a significant decrease in the 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutary-CoA reductase and mevalonate-5-pyrophosphate decarboxylase specific activities from both brain and liver.

Although no increase in hydroxyl radical formation was detected, D‐phenylalanine completely prevented the amphetamine‐induced increase in glutamate efflux, as did systemic injection of another trapping agent, α‐phenyl‐N‐tert‐butyl nitrone (60 mg/kg).

It is probably not due to a tryptophan-specific mechanism, because amphetamine increases the ratio of brain/plasma concentrations not only of tryptophan but also of tyrosine and phenylalanine.

Poly (U)‐dependent [3H] phenylalanine incorporation by brain S‐28 system is significantly inhibited by D‐amphetamine.
