Addition of pteroylglutamic acid (PGA), homocysteine, Mg++, DPN, and ATP enhances the incorporation of serine-3-C14 into methionine, while addition of aminopterin or omission of PGA from the reaction mixture significantly decreases the incorporation of serine-3-C14 or formaldehyde-C14 into methionine.
