ALA inhibited the tau aggregation as indicated by reduced ThS fluorescence kinetics, which indicates no aggregation of tau.
Along with its ability to impede the aggregation of tau, ALA also maintains a native random coiled structure, which was estimated by CD spectroscopy.
Finally, TEM analysis showed that the formation of tau fibrils was found to be discouraged by ALA.
Hence, conclusion of the study suggested that ALA profoundly inhibited aggregation of tau and maintained it's the random-coil structure.

Substitution of these residues by either glutamine (M1651M1652/QQ) or alanine (MM/AA) increases the inactivation time constant ( tau ) at depolarized voltages, shifts steady-state inactivation (h infinity) in a depolarized direction, and decreases the time constant for recovery from inactivation.

ALA suppressed the PERK/eIF2α signaling, which may be responsible for multifaceted memory-deteriorating and neurodegenerative mechanisms, including inhibition of Aβ production by … (BACE1) expression, enhancement of cAMP response element binding protein (CREB) function via down-regulating activating transcription factor 4 (ATF4), and suppression of Tau phosphorylation by …) pathway.

The data indicate that the dietary fatty acids ALA could significantly enhance phagocytosis and intracellular degradation of internalized Tau.

Treatment with ALA protected the postoperative cognitive function and the structure of hippocampal neurons and synapses, and prevented the increase in protein expression levels of Cdk5 and Aβ, and the phosphorylation of tau in the hippocampus of WT but not db/db mice.
