Possible Interaction: Agmatine and Anticonvulsants

supplement:

Agmatine

Research Papers that Mention the Interaction

Agmatine significantly enhanced the anticonvulsant effect of opioid-independent shorter swim stress, in which a combination of subthreshold swim stress duration (45s) and subeffective dose of agmatine (1mg/kg) revealed a significantly higher seizure threshold compared with either one.
Our data suggest that pretreatment of animals with agmatine acts additively with short swim stress to exert anticonvulsant responses , possibly by mediating NO pathway.

Agmatine also potentiates the anti-seizure activity of morphine.
Our results indicate that pretreatment of animals with agmatine enhances the anticonvulsant effects of morphine via a mechanism which may involve the NO pathway.
with an ineffective combination of morphine (0.1mg/kg) plus agmatine (1mg/kg) produced significant anticonvulsant impacts.

In summary, our findings demonstrate that agmatine and lithium chloride exhibit additive anticonvulsant properties which seem to be mediated through α(2)-adrenoceptor.

Agmatine (5mg/kg) significantly increased the anticonvulsant effect of both the noneffective dose (20mg/kg) (P<0.05) and the effective dose (80 mg/kg) (P<0.001) of melatonin.
Melatonin, at 40 and 80 mg/kg, and agmatine , at 10 and 20mg/kg, exerted anticonvulsant effects.

Pretreatment with a per se non-effective dose of agmatine (1mg/kg) potentiated the anticonvulsant effect of morphine.
These results suggest that agmatine potentiates the anticonvulsant effect of morphine and alpha 2-adrenoceptors may be involved in this effect.
